Taxonomic notes are provided including the designation of a neotype for Tityus marmoreus and redescriptions of Lychas scutilus, Isometroides vescus, Isometroides aitkeni sp. nov. and Isometroides waldockae sp. nov. Diagnoses and taxonomic notes are provided for I. alexandrinus, I. angusticaudus, I. annulatus, I. jonesae, I. mjobergi, I. truncatus, I. xerolimniorum, A. armatus, A. besti, A. bituberculatus, A. lappa, A. marmoreus, A. mucronatus, A. nigriscens, A. papuanus, A. spinatus, A. splendens and A. variatus. A short note is also added in this thesis on a novel means of deriving information of surface sculpturing from these scorpions using the fluorescent property of scorpion epicuticle. Using analogous principles to those used in scanning electron microscopy, this technique provides a more cost-effective means of observing and documenting the detail of cuticular sculpturing, so important in the taxonomy of scorpions.
